The desktop scanner app loop sits on Scanner app. A phone camera product sits on Scan documents vs CamScanner.

This is NAPS2. GPL-2.0. We did not make it. Official files live on GitHub Releases. The repo is cyanfish/naps2. This site does not host the installer. Skip Softonic, CNET, and unofficial wrappers.

What how to scan from printer to computer is

Many desks have one box that prints and scans. People call that box a printer. The scan side still needs a program on this PC that can pull the page and save it. How to scan from printer to computer is that pull. NAPS2 talks to the all-in-one Windows already sees. We do not add the printer in this article. We do not walk Settings. We do not name a vendor wizard.

If the all-in-one is off, turn it on. If Windows has never met it, stop here. Get the device onto the PC the way you already do for printing, then come back. This page starts after that. The file you want ends up on this computer, not on a front-panel stick unless you chose that yourself at the box.

Install NAPS2 for this job

Paste this into Windows Terminal or Command Prompt:

winget install -e --id Cyanfish.NAPS2
Copy

If winget is missing, install App Installer from Microsoft, then paste again. Official Microsoft links only. GitHub Releases is the other path. For most PCs take naps2-8.3.2-win-x64.exe. ARM: naps2-8.3.2-win-arm64.exe. An msi, msix, and zip also exist on that release. Live tag observed: V8.3.2. File list sits on Scan documents releases. LICENSE sits on Scan documents GitHub.

How to scan from a printer to this computer

  1. Install NAPS2 with the command on this page, or naps2-8.3.2-win-x64.exe from GitHub Releases. ARM uses naps2-8.3.2-win-arm64.exe.
  2. Open NAPS2. You should get a window on this PC.
  3. Confirm the all-in-one is on and already available to Windows. We do not add the printer here.
  4. Scan from the printer or all-in-one in NAPS2. Use the glass or the feeder on that box.
  5. Save the file on this PC. PDF is the usual document save. An image is fine when you want a picture file.

That is the printer-to-PC loop. The page starts on the box. The file ends on this computer.

Already available, said plainly

Already available means you can already send a print to that box, or Windows already lists it as a scanner. This article does not click through add-printer. Those menus move. A how-to that pretends we add the device here would be a different job. How to scan from printer to computer, on this page, is NAPS2 talking to hardware that is already there.

If the box is on the network and Windows already prints to it, you are in the right place. If the box is USB and Windows already prints to it, you are in the right place. If nobody set the box up yet, set it up first, then return. We will not invent a vendor name for that setup.

Power matters. An all-in-one in sleep can take a moment. Open the window, wait, try the scan. If NAPS2 has no device to talk to, the printer-to-PC job cannot start. Do not download a second program named scan because the box was asleep.

Glass on the printer, feeder on the printer

The scan glass is on the same box that prints. Lift the lid. Align the sheet to the mark on that glass. Close the lid. Scan in NAPS2. The file arrives on this PC. That is how to scan from printer to computer when you have one sheet.

If the box has a feeder on top, load the stack face the way that box expects. Fan the paper. Pull staples. Then scan in NAPS2. A jam is the box, not the GitHub app. Clear the jam on the printer. Try one page. Then try the stack.

Copies on the front panel are copies. They stay on paper. This article is the computer file. If you only needed a paper copy, you do not need this page. If you needed a PDF on this PC, stay.

Save on this PC

Pick a folder you already use. Documents is fine. The desktop is fine if you will move it. Do not leave a stack of scans on a borrowed account. How to scan from printer to computer includes the save. The job is not done when the glass motor stops. The job is done when the file opens on this computer.

Name the file after the page, not after the hour, if you will hunt it next week. We will not invent a folder scheme. One honest name beats scan1.pdf through scan40.pdf when you forgot what 17 was.

If the save fails, the disk may be full, or the path may be on a USB stick you already pulled. Save again to a local folder. Then copy.

What this will not do

It will not add a printer in Windows. The all-in-one has to be already available. Then NAPS2 talks to it. A phone over the glass is a different job. It will not host the installer.

It will not replace a dead all-in-one. It will not unjam the feeder. It will not host the installer. The scanner app article is the general desktop loop. This article is printer-to-PC.

Why the phrase talks about a printer

People type how to scan from printer to computer because the scanner and the printer share a chassis. The word printer is the word on the box. The scan still lands in a program. NAPS2 is the program we document. Cyanfish publishes it under GPL-2.0. We did not make it.

Front-panel scan to email, scan to a stick, and scan to a network folder are jobs the box may already offer. We do not reprint those menus. If you already use the stick, keep using it. This page is the PC window path. The file is on this computer because you saved it from NAPS2.

A phone over the printer glass is still a phone job. If that is what you wanted, the comparison sits on Scan documents vs CamScanner. How to scan from printer to computer, here, uses the all-in-one as the scanner and this PC as the disk.

x64, ARM, and the live tag

Usual Windows pick is naps2-8.3.2-win-x64.exe. ARM uses naps2-8.3.2-win-arm64.exe. Live tag observed: V8.3.2. The same release lists msi, msix, and zip. Match the machine. Do not invent a newer tag. Read Scan documents releases for the asset list. The repo sits on Scan documents GitHub.

If SmartScreen warns on a first exe, read the publisher. Prefer the GitHub asset over a renamed copy. Winget talks to Microsoft. The command is still winget install -e --id Cyanfish.NAPS2. You can install on the home page if you want the same copy row.

Shared PCs and a box that stays

The all-in-one often stays in the room when you leave. The installer should not. A lab that already has the box still may block GitHub. Then how to scan from printer to computer through NAPS2 is closed for that hour. Use what the lab already installed, or wait for a PC you control. Do not fetch a wrapper.

A borrowed laptop plus a shared printer is a common hour. Scan, save, copy the PDF to your own stick, delete the copy on their disk if they asked you to. Uninstall if you added NAPS2 and they did not want it left behind. Quitting the window is not uninstall.

When the printer scans and the PC gets nothing

The box can look busy and still send nothing to NAPS2 if you started the job on the front panel instead of in the app. For this article, start the scan in NAPS2. Watch the window. If the preview never appears, confirm the all-in-one is the device the window is talking to. A second printer in the room is a second device.

A blank preview is still a stop. The glass on the printer gets dusty too. The feeder can grab two sheets. Open the lid. Look. Clean. Try one page. Then save on this PC.

If print still works and scan does not, the box is on the PC for paper out, and not yet for paper in. That is a device problem on the Windows side we do not walk here. Come back when scan is already available. Then NAPS2 can pull the page.

How do I scan from a printer to this computer?

Install NAPS2 with winget install -e --id Cyanfish.NAPS2 or the GitHub exe. Open it. Confirm the all-in-one is on and already available to Windows. Scan from that box in NAPS2. Save the file on this PC. The install pointer is Install on the home page.

Do I add the printer in this how-to?

No. We do not add the printer here. The all-in-one has to be already available to Windows. Then NAPS2 talks to it.

Does how to scan from printer to computer need a phone?

No. This article uses the all-in-one and this PC. A phone camera product sits on Scan documents vs CamScanner.

Where do I fetch it?

GitHub Releases or winget. Skip wrappers. Notes sit on Scan documents download safe.
